The Gate House

This stone property which is full of character was the original Makeney Hall until the Strutt family built the Makeney Hall that exists today. The Gate House was then used for the garaging of their various cars and coaches. The property since has been converted to provide a interesting spacious house which stands in it's own grounds in the hamlet of Makeney. The property is finished to a very high standard with oak flooring throughout. This luxury accommodation has under floor heating, stylish features and fittings, and recessed lighting which gives a quality feel.

Within easy walking distance there are two real ale pubs which are full of character with beams and real fires and two other pubs serving food. Walkers can take advantage of the many trails which can be taken from the door.
Sports available in the area include tennis, fishing and bowls, three good riding and trekking stables within a mile or so, several local golf courses, fishing and canoeing in the Derwent, and Belper’s fully equipped family Sports Centre just two miles away. There is climbing, caving, gliding & water sports all less than 20 miles away.
There are shops and restaurants close by and two seven-day supermarkets in Belper, 1 1/2 miles up the A6.

It’s in an area rich in heritage, with mills, canals, museums and the Derwent Valley Visitor Centre all nearby, and attractions such as the Crich Tramway Village Museum, Matlock Bath’s Cable Cars & Gulliver’s Kingdom, Alton Towers and the scenic limestone dales of the Peak Park & Carsington Water all an easy drive. Ashbourne (the Gateway to Dovedale), the country towns of Matlock, Buxton and Bakewell are easy to reach, Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are a short drive.

On the ground floor there is an impressive reception hallway with an oak stair case leading to the first floor. The additional lounge on the ground floor provides a relaxing space, with a piano and open fire place and comfortable sofas. Leading off from here there is a magnificent indoor swimming pool 7.5m x 5m with a changing room, hot tub for 6-8 persons and a football table.

On the first floor there is an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with a wood burning stove. The flat screened TV in the lounge has a sky package and all other T’Vs in each bedroom have free stat. The kitchen has been finished to a high specification with granite work surfaces, a double sink, two double inset electric ovens with a gas hob, griddle, deep fat fryer, microwave, American style fridge / freezer which produces ice and cool water and an additional freezer. There is dining space for 18 guests, and a separate utility room and a family bathroom on this level.  Bedrooms 4 and 6 have a double zip and link bed which can be a double or made into twins.

Outside there is a large garden with a substantial decked area with patio furniture, perfect for enjoying the garden views and fields beyond. There is also a fenced pond.

Gravel drive with lawn, large garden to the rear with garden furniture, bar be que, parking for 8 /10 cars. Wireless Internet available. Code will be supplied. A maximum of two dogs at this property.

A £250 Good Housekeeping Deposit is payable and is returned 1 week after departure if all booking conditions are met.

Winter Breaks from November to Easter. Short breaks taken throughout the year except Christmas and New Year.

Bookings taken Friday to Friday.   Stag groups or mixed groups of 18 to 30 year olds are not allowed at The Gate House.
