This spacious and well-equipped family home, was built in the 1840s as the chief engineer’s residence during the construction of the Midland Railway through Derbyshire’s scenic Derwent valley, and has now been sensitively modernised and extended to offer delightful family accommodation in this lively and attraction-rich region of Derbyshire.

The house retains some original character and much Mediterranean styling, with a cast-iron wood-stove in the large dining room, stripped-pine doors, and many areas of Spanish-tiled floors with scatter-rugs. Sensitive remodelling has created a most comfortable lounge with a delightful morning room off, whose picture windows embrace the outlook over the old Station to river meadows and valley woodland below, with plenty of space for the larger family party to ‘spread out’.
The property overlooks the unique and historic ‘Triangular Station’ of Ambergate Junction with its original bridges & celebrated ‘round’ tunnels. The ancient Cromford Canal (great walks!) and Ambergate Woods are all on the doorstep; the famed Midland Railway Centre, Leawood Pump, Middleton Engine House, Belper’s North Mills centre, and Crich Tramway Village are but a few mins drive, all combining to make this the perfect venue for enthusiasts to explore the wealth of transport and railway heritage in the Amber Valley district.

The historic town of Belper - with Sports Centre, swimming pool, Visitor Centre, Heritage Centre, exquisite River Gardens (and three good supermarkets!) - is under 2 miles by road, with golf, coarse fishing, bowls and tennis all available locally. Within a short drive you’ll find Carsington Water, Matlock Bath and all the striking scenery of the southern Peak National Park: the country towns of Buxton, Bakewell and Ashbourne are an easy drive, and children will love the nearby American Adventure Theme Park, Midland Railway Centre (look out for Thomas!!) - and the ever-popular Alton Towers (30 mins).

Regular trains to Matlock Bath and south to Derby bring even more attractions within easy reach of Woodside, whilst the barbecue, covered terrace, conservatory, inset Patio Chess Board, and those great walks ‘from the door’ will perhaps tempt you to ‘stay-at-home’ too!
