Dating from at least 1629, Upper Hall, once owned by Lord Caernarvon, is a fine example of a Grade-II*-listed half-timbered manor house. The house oozes historical character, and since it was relatively untouched until the present owners most sympathetic restoration, retains a wealth of interesting features with fine old oak beams, half-timbered walls, heavy oak doors with ancient metal fittings, inglenook fireplaces, and bread ovens.

The manor house is in the village of Hartshorne located within the National Forest, within walking distance of several pubs and restaurants, in the pleasant scenery of south Derbyshire. Attractions include Ashby Castle of Ivanhoe, Calke Abbey, Staunton Harold, Conkers, Snibston Discovery Park, Melbourne Hall, National Space Centre, Sudbury Hall, Kedleston Hall, Foremark Reservoir & Swarkestone with their water-sports facilities. The nearby villages of Ticknall, Repton and Melbourne also are interesting to explore. Other local attractions are Donnington Park, Coors Visitor Centre and Twycross Zoo. Ashbourne (the Gateway to Dovedale) and the ever-popular Alton Towers, can all be easily reached
